Diagnosis & Referral

A formal diagnosis of autism can only be given by a qualified clinician such as a psychologist, psychiatrist, or paediatrician. The process, known as the diagnostic pathway, involves detailed assessment using interviews, observations, and evidence-based clinical tools. This process is guided by nationally recognised frameworks, such as the NICE guidelines in England, and should consider cultural background, co-occurring conditions, and differences in gender presentation—especially in women and girls, who may “fly under the radar”.

As an experienced autism specialist practitioner and therapist, I am not qualified to provide a diagnosis. However, I can help you access the support and referrals you need. I can:

  • Signpost you (free of charge) to an appropriate private or NHS diagnostic clinician or multi-disciplinary team.
  • Provide a written referral or supporting report based on my observations and work with you and/or your child (admin fee or hourly rate applies—always discussed first).
  • Offer up to 30 minutes of free initial contact to help you explore your situation and options.

If you are struggling to access assessment through the NHS, I can provide advocacy support and guidance (charged as a service) to help you approach your GP, understand your rights under the Children & Families Act 2014, and prepare for referral.

For those seeking private diagnosis, I work with trusted professionals in Bristol, London’s Harley Street, and South Wales. While I am not affiliated or financially connected with any specific clinician, I have experience navigating this process and can help you feel informed and supported throughout.

In addition to standard autism diagnosis, I can help you explore more nuanced profiles such as Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) as well as understand the complexities in diagnosing women and girls, whose traits may be masked or misunderstood under the traditional more male-focused criteria.

My assessments are based on developmental history for understanding yours or your child’s specific needs for therapy, intervention and planning for my services. I offer in-person consultations in your home environment – a 3-hour session based on a previously completed questionnaire, tailored to meet your specific needs.

Please get in touch in whatever way is easiest for you. I am here to help you take the next steps into your future.
